The Program

Academics, martial arts, and character — three threads woven into a single school day.

Two-Hour Learning

Modern Samurai Academy uses the 2 Hour Learning model: students work through adaptive, mastery-based software for reading, writing, and math in two focused hours each morning, at their own pace, with real-time data guiding what they work on next. Because the model is personalized rather than paced to a classroom average, students routinely master a full year of content in a fraction of the seat time — freeing afternoons for the life-skills work that makes this academy different.

Independently accredited, academically accountable

Modern Samurai Academy holds accreditation through Cognia, the international accrediting body that evaluates schools against rigorous standards for teaching, learning, and continuous improvement. Accreditation means families can trust that our academics are independently reviewed — not just internally graded.

Life skills, trained on the mat.

Martial arts at Modern Samurai Academy isn’t an elective — it’s where students practice the discipline, focus, and resilience their academics and entrepreneurship depend on. Every class reinforces the same standard: show up, give full effort, and treat every rep like it matters. The belt system gives students a visible, earned measure of their own growth.

The Gentle Powerful Way.

Ju Ki Do, when translated to English, literally means “The Gentle Powerful Way.” The style, inspired by 14 traditional martial art disciplines was founded by Kyoshi Ivan Ujueta in 1988.

The primary philosophy of Ju Ki Do is to disable a man from doing wrong and enable him to do right. Our current society is rapidly losing the concept of value for human life. This is evident by the ever increasing atrocities committed against one another on a daily basis. The mindset of vengeance and self-justification runs rampant through our communities. Ju Ki Do opposes this mindset by teaching students an art more difficult to master than destruction; the art of healing.

The term Ju conveys a concept of being gentle or yielding. It is the idea of not meeting force with force, but rather embracing and redirecting.

The term Ki is representative of power. More specifically the life energy or internal power.

The term Do is a path or a way. In other words a mindset or perspective to abide by.

Entrepreneurial Martial Arts Training

We teach kids to do more than “get a good job”—we teach them to build a purposeful life. Through real-world projects like organizing tournaments, producing marketing materials, and helping run the dojo, students turn everyday subjects into practical skills: math becomes budgeting, writing becomes marketing, creativity becomes the ability to create real value for others.
Students begin to understand an important connection:

  • What I learn develops what I can do.
  • What I can do determines the value I can create.
  • The value I create determines the opportunities available to me.

Martial arts builds the foundation: discipline, confidence, perseverance, and character — so that when it’s time to choose their path, students have what it takes to turn their passions into a purposeful life.
